David Collier

David Collier is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court (England & Wales) and Attorney-at-Law (Cayman Islands). He was admitted in Cayman in October 2005. Prior to joining Ritch & Conolly in February 2016 David worked at Collas Crill & CARD (formerly Charles Adams Ritchie & Duckworth) in Cayman.


David has twenty years’ experience of which over fifteen years have been spent living and practising in the Cayman Islands. He has handled some of the largest commercial disputes cases in the market and has acted in a number of cross border matters for clients from all over the world, including the United States of America, Canada, France, the UAE, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Russia, Norway and Taiwan. He has acted for both a local and international clientele including major financial institutions. He has also often worked closely with leading UK and US based law firms as well as leading English counsel.

Key assignments/cases in which David has previously acted/advised include:

  • a multi-million dollar claim to recover assets under a constructive/resulting trust and damages for wilful default.
  • advising numerous liquidators, creditors and stakeholders in both local and international contentious insolvency matters.
  • advising a major accountancy firm in a multi-million dollar claim in relation to allegations of negligence following the collapse of funds/companies.
  • acting in a number of claims both for and against local and international banks following the collapse of hedge funds.
  • Acting in Judicial Review proceedings (both in Grand Court and Court of Appeal).
  • advising and acting in proceedings concerning the enforcement of security against borrowers for a number of local and international banks.
  • advising the single largest investor in relation to proceedings concerning the liquidation of ‘Sphinx’ funds.
  • acting for foreign and local companies in obtaining ‘Mareva’ injunctive relief.
