Ritch & Connolly once again both sponsored and participated in Off The Beaten Track, the unique ultra-marathon now in its fifth year that raises money for charity both in Cayman and internationally.
Established by KRyS Global CEO and ultra-marathon runner, Kenneth Krys, the 50 km race emulates the 156-mile, six-day Marathon des Sables, held every year in the Sahara Desert. Participants in the Cayman race cover a course that includes back roads, uncharted bush and beaches. Runners can tackle the race individually or as a six-member relay team.
As it does every year, the event raised money for international charity Facing Africa, which helps children in Nigeria and Ethiopia who suffer from Noma, a disease which causes life-threatening facial disfigurements. Cayman Meals on Wheels was the local beneficiary.
Ritch & Conolly Partner Cherry Bridges has spearheaded the firm’s involvement as a sponsor. “Ritch & Conolly is once again pleased to sponsor this unique fundraiser which contributes to worthy causes both locally and worldwide,” she says. “The firm commends KRyS Global for their yearly commitment to Facing Africa as well as local charities, along with their great efforts in promoting and organizing such a fantastic event”.
In addition, staff members always form a team to take part in the event, which was held 23 February. Emma Byrnes, Ritch & Conolly’s Corporate Manager, enjoys the challenge: “I have participated in OTBT every year since its inception. In my opinion, it’s a unique race experience in that you get an opportunity to run in unfamiliar terrain in areas where you wouldn’t routinely run. It’s a great opportunity to explore different routes in Cayman, while also supporting both a local and international charity”.
This year’s race raised more than $14,000 for the two charities.
